From early in its history, the Methodist Church began a tradition of covenant. Each year, at the beginning of the year, Methodist gather to reflect again on God's grace and call, and to examine what it means to be in a binding relationship with God. The traditional covenant prayer is a difficult one to pray, but one that leaves the worshipper with a deep sense of renewed passion for following Christ, and of our lives being in the hands of the God who cares for us with an eternal love. These contemporary resources are in no way intended to "water down" the original covenant commitment. Rather, they are an attempt to reframe this tradition in ways that are relevant and engaging for a new generation. I pray that these resources may help to make your covenant time challenging, inspirational and renewing!
